New Delhi: Off-spinner Prosper Utseya on Friday became only the second Zimbabwean to take a hat-trick in One Day international and that too against the best side South Africa.
Dismissing opener Quinton de Kock, Rilee Rossouw and David Miller in consecutive deliveries in the 27th over, the proteas were down to 231 all out from 142/0. Utseya ended with a career-best 5-36 and was backed up by fellow offspinner John Nyumbu, who took 3-42.
The only other Zimbabwean to take a hat trick in ODIs was fast bowler Eddo Brandes against England at the same Harare ground in 1997. Utseya is also currently on report for a suspected illegal bowling action, although he is allowed to play pending tests.
Zimbabwe had a real chance of a first ODI win over South Africa in 14 years and only its third ever over its African neighbor, but unfortunately they missed the opportunity by 61 runs.
