Cuttack: After a daunting total amassed by the Indian batsmen, bowlers played their part as well to take India home to a comfortable victory by 169 runs against Sri Lanka in first ODI of the 5-match series played at Barabati Stadium here on Sunday.

 

India now lead the series 1-0.Put into bat, Rahane struck 111 from 108 balls en route to his second ODI century while Dhawan returned to form with a 107-ball 113 as India posted an imposing 363 for five.

Suresh Raina, appearing in his 200th ODI, also did his bit by striking a quick-fire 52 off 34 balls and a wicket it was one-way traffic for India.

Ishant Sharma was adjudged Man of the Match for picking up 4 wickets. He had both Kumar Sangakkara (13) and Ashan Priyanjan (12) caught behind and later added two lower-order batsmen to his pocket.

Ashwin and Raina too bagged 1 wicket in their account. While Umesh Yadav and Akshar Patel picked up two wickets each. Patel got rid off Jayawardene (43) when he was well set. Yadav took India home in 39.2 overs when Ishant took a low catch to dismiss Perera.

The two teams will now travel to Ahmedabad for the second match on Thursday.
