Johannesburg: India end the day 1 of the 1st test match of the tour of South Africa with 255 for 5 wickets on the board here on Wednesday.
Century by Indian batsman Virat Kohli helped India in crucial time in the day and helped India reach a comfortable position in the match.
India, after winning the toss opted to bat first but Indian openers again surrendered to Proteas pacers with Shikhar Dhawan and Murli Vijay fell cheaply and India were 24/2.
Virat with Pujara jointly scored 89 runs for the 4th wicket to take India out of trouble. Pujara fell on 25 runs when he got himself runout by Imran Tahir.
Then Rohit Sharma batted for a while and scored 19 runs but removed by Vernom.
Ajinkya Rahane came to the pitch and stablised Indian inning with Virat Kohli. They made very useful 68 runs partnership for the team.
Virat smashed his 5th test century and 1st against South Africa and scored 119 runs studded with 18 fours but then fell off Kallis delivery when he got caught by Duminy over covers.
At the end of the day 1, skipper MS Dhoni 17* and Rahane 43* were at the crease.
For South Africa, Steyn, Morkel, Vernom, Kallis shared 1 wicket each but spinner Imran Tahir gave runs at 6 rpo economy.
