Vijay 59*(190) is in company of skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who survived a hostile spell from Stuart Broad to remain undefeated on 12 off 51 balls having added crucial 46 runs with Vijay for the fifth wicket.

Liam Plunkett took two wickets for the host dismissing well set Pujara on 43 and Kohli on duck on the very next ball. From 118 for one, India were reduced to 123 for four in a space of three overs.

Earlier, England were bowled out for 319 in their first innings, just before lunch, taking a 24-run lead.

Resuming third day at 219/6, the hosts put on 100 runs and lost four wickets in the morning session to go ahead of India's first innings total of 295.

Pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar picked up his career best 6/82, becoming only the third Indian bowler to pick up six wickets at the 'home of cricket' after Ladha Amar Singh and Bishan Singh Bedi.
