Johannesburg: The first test match of the 2 test series of India tour of South Africa ends in a draw. South Africa fell just 8 runs short of winning the test match which could have been the record chase in test matches in the history of cricket.

Late strike by the Indian bowlers in the last session of the match saved team India from losing the match. Ishant Sharma broke the 205 runs 5th wicket partnership between du Plessis and de Villiers when his delivery edged de Villiers bat and hit stumps. AB de Villiers departed on 103 runs.

Then Shami clean bowled JP Duminy on 5 runs. Faf du Plessis (134) proved his mettle and he calmly batted throughout the Day 5 since the tea time of 4th day. But when Proteas needed 16 runs off last 3 overs he got himself run out by A Rahane.

It was then the responsibility of saving the match for South Africa put on Steyn's and Vernon Philander's shoulder and they played Indian seamers well in the last 3 overs of the match. Dale Steyn smashed a six over long on to finish South Africa on 450/7.

For India, Shami took 3 wickets in his 28 overs of South African 2nd inning giving 107 runs. Zaheer and Ishant shared 1 wicket each in the 2nd inning.

For his batting performance in both innings, Indian batsman Virat Kohli awarded man of the match. Kohli scored 119 in first inning and 96 in 2nd inning.
