12:10 PM: Sachin Tendulkar becomes the youngest Indian to be conferred the Bharat Ratna. He is also the first to be chosen for this honour from the field of sports, ahead of hockey wizard Dhyan Chand, whose name was recommended by Union sports ministry in July 2013. 

The proposal to confer Bharat Ratna to Sachin was fast tracked by the Prime Minister's Office, which sought information about Tendulkar from the sports ministry on November 14, the first day of his farewell 200th Test in Mumbai.  Two days later, on November 16, the PMO announced that Sachin and Rao would get the Bharat Ratna.

CNR Rao's name was recommended by eminent space scientist K Kasturirangan on September 28.

12:09 pm: The Secretary to the President announces the ceremony is over. The national anthem tune is sung again, and history is made.

12:08 pm: Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar's name is announced. He walks up to the podium, bows to the PResident with folded hands, and gets the medallion of Bharat Ratna alongwith the medallion certificate.

12:05: Sachin wearing a jodhpuri coat, alongwith CNR Rao hums the national anthem with his lips.

12:04:  Sachin and CNR Rao fold hands in 'namaskar' and the national anthem is sung.

12:04 : Sachin ramesh Tendulkar being conferred Bharat ratan

12:03 : With trumpeteers blowing the trumpet, President Pranab Mukherjee walks into the hall.

11:55 am: Sachin Tendulkar and CNR Rao arrive at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
