Bangalore: Suresh Raina blazed his way to a beautiful century as Chennai Super Kings (CSK) beat Kolkata Knght Riders (KKR) by eight wickets to win Champions League T20 (CLT20) 2014 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday.
This was Chennai Super Kings' second CLT20 win. The left-hander smashed six boundaries and eight huge sixes in his 62-ball knock of 109.
Yusuf Pathan and Pat Cummins were the only wicket takers for KKR picking up Brendon McCullum and Dwayne Smith respecitvely. Chinaman Kuldeep Yadav was proved to be the costliest among all, giving away 44 runs in 4 overs. Piyush Chawla too leaked 38 runs in 3 overs.
Earlier, a superb opening partnership of 91 between Gautam Gambhir (80) and Robin Uthappa (39) set the platform for a big total and although the innings was pegged back by a couple of strikes from Negi, Gambhir continued his knack of scoring big in the finals.
The young left-arm spinner Negi used the conditions well to collect a five-for, the first in this tournament this season. Nehra, who battled the wet ball and couldn't quite finish on a high after a decent start. He gave away 39 runs in his last two overs. Last five overs, 62 runs. Two of those overs bowled by spinners, 5 runs.
