New Delhi: The seventh edition of cash-rich Indian Premier League ended with Kolkata regaining their title after 2012 and in the span of 46 days of cricketainment we have seen some scintillating performances.There were no big players like Kohli and Pietersen, there was no Gayle-storm yet many of the players who caught the eye this season were either emerging, uncapped or fading stars. Know what these wonders are:1) Only Indian to score two IPL tons – Virender SehwagIn the qualifier 2 of the tournament, Virender Sehwag showed his actual form after scoring a brilliant 122 off 58 balls against Chennai Super Kings which helped Kings XI Punjab to post a daunting target of 227 and further qualify for the finals. This was the second IPL ton for Sehwag and he is the only Indian to score a century in two occasions. He has been sidelined from the team from more than one year but this performance bought him back to his original form.2) 18 dot balls in four over spell – Bhuvneshwar KumarSunrisers Hyderabad's speedster Bhuvneshwar Kumar stunned everybody by delivering 18-dot balls in his four overs against RCB in 24th game. Batsmen managed to score only 16 runs against Kumar in the game.3) The total of 200 on four occasions – Kings XI PunjabKings XI Punjab batsmen assaulted the bowlers this season with scoring 200+ totals on four occasions and out of it, two times they chased the target of above the double ton. Apart from this, four to five times, Punjab batsmen have finished the innings in the 190s including the score of 199 in the finals.4) Fastest half-century – Yusuf PathanKKR's attacking batsman Yusuf Pathan hit a record 15-ball half century in IPL history against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Kolkata needed to chase down 161 in 15.2 overs to seal their second spot in the points table and Pathan Power worked on the right time for the team. He scored 72 runs off just 22 balls and took KKR to the second spot.5) The big hitter – Glenn MaxwellThe man who had stolen the show in this season was the Punjabi batsman Glenn Maxwell. Missing his century on four occasions, Maxi hit 36 sixes in the tournament which is highest by any batsmen this year.6) Best opener – Robin Uthappa Robin Uthappa is away from international cricket since 2008, but in this year IPL with his 11 consecutive 40+ scores and two times century opening partnership with Gautam Gambhir he is finally able to impress the national selectors. He is going to play his first ODI in 6 years against Bangladesh later this month. This year in IPL, he also becomes only the second Indian after Sachin Tendulkar to hold Orange Cap with scoring 660 runs in 16 matches, highest by any Indian.7) Highest team total – Kings XI Punjab The ‘M' factor; Maxwell (90) and Miller (47) for Kings XI Punjab worked perfectly this season. The duo put on a 135 run stand against Chennai Super Kings in the 29th game to post the highest total (231) of the tournament this year. Kings XI later won the match by 44 runs.8) Fastest team 100 – Chennai Super KingsIn the second qualifier of IPL this year, while chasing a daunting target of 227 runs posted by Kings XI Punjab batsmen, CSK's Suresh Raina took over the responsibility to take the team through to the finals. With his 33 runs in one over against Parvinder Awana, CSK completed their 100 runs in just 6 overs. This is a record in itself in IPL history. In the same game, Raina also scored 33 runs in a single over which is also a record in itself. 9) Highest run rate – Mumbai IndiansChasing Rajasthan's 189-4, Rohit Sharma's men thumped their way to 195-5 in just 14.4 overs to snatch fourth place on net run rate from the Royals. In doing so, Mumbai chased down the target at 13.29 runs per over—the highest figure ever recorded for an IPL innings exceeding 10 overs. Corey Anderson showed his worth after playing an innings of 95 off 44 balls that took Mumbai through to the playoffs.
