Shami belongs to Joya city, District Amroha UP. Shami Ahmed made his first-class debut in 2010 against Assam, picking up three wickets. He has enjoyed more success in the domestic T20 format, having played eight games, picking up 14 wickets with a best haul of 4 for 24. He was signed by Kolkata Knight Riders for the 2011 Indian Premier League
