New Delhi: The relation between cricket and technology seems to be increasing with every passing days. The latest to be added to the list is the sets of glittering stumps that is being used in the ongoing ICC T20 world cup. The glowing stumps which it is commonly known as functions on the basic principle of equalizer. The stumps are fitted with light emitting diodes which glow when they come in contact with the cricket bowl.It is being said to be accurate and precise upto the rate of of 1/1000 of a second . The lights are powered by low voltage batteries. The glowing stumps were first used in the domestic Big Bash league in Australia were it was found to be very helpful for the third umpire in giving close decisions. The system is known as Zing wicket system and it is the latest of the gadgets that are being employed by the ICC to reduce the scope of human error while giving decision by the match officials. It operates on by a sensor which sends radio signals which in result lights up the LED,s instantaneously to indicate the contact. The only flip side of this technology is that the bail are a bit heavier than the normal ones and as a result of which the bowlers need to put in an extra bit of effort to dislodge it. A one such incident has been reported in the Big Bash league where the bails glowed on contact but did not dislodged totally.
