LONDON: Former Essex and Pakistan bowler Danish Kaneria has failed in his bid to overturn a life ban from cricket for breaking anti-corruption rules.

Kaneria was banned for life in 2012 by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on charges of inducing his Essex teammate Mervyn Westfield to bowl deliberately badly in a one-day game against Durham in 2009. Westfield was sentenced to four months in prison for spot-fixing.

After a first appeal under ECB regulations failed last year, Kaneria took his case to the High Court in London, disputing the life ban and orders to pay ECB legal costs of 200,000 pounds ($339,000).

In a statement, ECB chief executive David Collier has urged legspinner Kaneria to cooperate with cricket's ruling bodies against match-fixing.
