IPL 2023: Mumbai Indians have named Mark Boucher as the head coach of their franchise. After the mega auctions of 2023, Mumbai Indians opted for an overhaul of their side and opted for younger players as they let go off the likes of Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, and others. Till this point in time, Mark Boucher has been associated with the South African side as their head coach and his stint with the national team will end post the 2022 T20 World Cup.
After South Africa's crushing defeat to England in the three-match-Test series the Proteas head coach Mark Boucher immediately expressed his desire to step down. This decision brought in a lot of murmurs about him wanting to join the IPL, especially the Mumbai outfit as their head coach. After the former South African wicketkeeper Boucher's sudden decision, it has now been confirmed that he will take over the role of head coach for Mumbai Indians in the upcoming season of the IPL. Rumors also had it that Boucher had expressed his keen interest in coaching MI Cape Town, but they have now roped in Simon Katich for the inaugural season.
The wicketkeeper-batsman has had an illustrious career as a wicketkeeper-batsman and still holds the record for the most Test dismissals by a wicket-keeper. After he bowed out of International cricket, Boucher took over the role of a head coach for Titans and played a vital part in their five victorious campaigns. As the South African coach, Boucher has 11 Test wins, 12 ODI wins, and 23 T20I victories.
