Kolkata: The Darren Sammy-led West Indies cricket squad arrived here Monday for the first of the two Tests against India in what is legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar's farewell series.
The opening Test would be played at the iconic Eden Gardens Nov 6-10 before Tendulkar calls it a day at the end of the second match - the 200th Test of his career - at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai Nov 14-18.
Surrounded by gun-toting commandos and security personnel, the Caribbean team boarded a bus and headed straight for the team hotel.
The visitors will play a three-day warm-up match against Uttar Pradesh at the Jadavpur University Ground in the satellite township of Salt Lake from Oct 31. The match was shifted to Kolkata following torrential rains in Cuttack.
The 15-member squad arrived in India earlier in the day after a 17-hour flight.
The West Indies will wrap up the tour with three one-dayers at Kochi (Nov 21), Vishakhapatnam (Nov 24) and Baroda/Kanpur (Nov 27).
