Colombo: India were 50/2 against Sri Lanka when rain interrupted play before lunch on the opening day of the third and final cricket Test at the at the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) here on Friday.
Opening batsman Cheteshwar Pujara (19 not out) and captain Virat Kohli (14 not out) were at the crease after 15 overs of play. India lost opener Lokesh Rahul (2) and Ajinkya Rahane (8).
Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews won the toss and opted to ball in the third Test match of the three-test series against India.
Virat Kohli managed to register his first Test victory as captain after India humbled the hosts by 278 runs in the series-levelling win at the P Sara Oval and the new leader stands at the cusp of claiming his maiden rubber as well.
India will seek to clinch their first series win on Sri Lankan soil in 22 years as they go into the third and final cricket Test against the hosts here today.
Mohammad Azharuddin had last led an Indian team to a Test series win here on Lankan turf, back in 1993, with a 1-0 margin.
