Hello and welcome to India TV's live blog for the 2nd Test that will be a day-night game between India and Sri Lanka here at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on Saturday. I am your host for the day Aarush Chopra. Stay tuned for the over by over updates of the game. You can also follow the scorecard given below.Sri Lanka 85/6 in 28.1 overs- WICKET Bumrah was brought back in for a short spell and he delivered to remove the well-set Mathews at the end of the day. Sri Lanka are now six down under the score of 100. It's going to be very difficult for the visitors to redeem from this point. India are in a pole position.
Sri Lanka 50/5 in 17.3 overs- WICKET India are all over the visitors as after the pacers' destruction, Axar Patel removes Asalanka. Sri Lanka are already half side down just after reaching 50. Mathews is showing some resistance but other batters are just fluttering. The visitors need to bat with responsibility now.
Axar Patel gets his first wicket.
Sri Lanka 28/4 in 11.5 overs- WICKET India's pacer put them in a commanding position after the start they provided their side with. Sri Lanka couldn't gather the time to settle in after they came in to bat. Under the lights, Shami and Bumrah extracted some extra bounce and swing with the pink cherry. Experienced Mathews and Dhananjaya need to rebuild Lankan innings if they want to avoid a big first-inning lead. And, just now Shami strikes again as he sends back de Silva. India are on top now.
Mohd. Shami grabs his second scalp.
Sri Lanka 14/3 in 5.1 overs- WICKET Dream start for India as Shami joins the party to remove the other Lankan opener Karunaratne. He comes in and uproots the stumps with his very first delivery. Sri Lanka are off to an awful start. Dhananjaya arrives in the middle.
Sri Lanka 14/2 in 4.1 overs- WICKET Ideal start for Bumrah and India. He has run his heart out to send another Lankan batter Thirimanne back to the pavilion. Jassi is making life difficult for the opposition on this spin-friendly track. Angelo Mathews walks in to bat at No 4.
Another wicket for Jasprit Bumrah.
India 2/1 in 2.1 overs- WICKET Just the start India wanted. Their go-to bowler Bumrah strikes early for India as he removes Mendis in his second over. Lahiru Thirimanne comes in at No 3. Two lefties at the crease would intrigue Ashwin from the other end.
Sri Lanka 2/0 in 1 over India have 250 plus runs on the board after the first innings. This isn't an easy pitch to bat on. Kusal Mendis and Karunaratne walk to start the proceedings for the visitors. Bumrah starts off with the new ball.
Dinner Break
India 252 all out in 59.1 overs And, Shreyas Iyer walks off the field with just eight runs short of his century against Sri Lanka. He in an attempt to smash this one out of the ground, perishes. India are all out with a good score of 252 on this sluggish pitch. At one stage, Sri Lanka might have stopped India under the score of 200. But, Iyer's heroics stabilised the host's performance in this first innings.
India 215/8 in 50 overs- WICKET India keep losing wickets as Axar Patel gets out after playing a loose shot. Shreyas Iyer needs some fight from the other end to set a good platform for the hosts. Mohd. Shami joins Iyer. Hope the pacer doesn't start going bonkers from the word go.
R Ashwin departs after scoring 13 runs.
India 183/7 in 47.1 overs- WICKET After building a good stand with Shreyas Iyer, Ashwin has to go back. The off-spinner departs for 13 runs. Sri Lanka's spinners continue to attack the Indian batters on this sluggish pitch. If India want to achieve a good first-inning score, Iyer has to stay till the end. Axar Patel comes in.
Shreyas Iyer reaches his fifty.
India 177/6 in 46 overs After the wickets fell in quick succession post-tea, India have managed to redeem well after that. Shreyas Iyer and Ashwin have complimented superbly each other till now and are scoring at a good pace for their team. They should look to go past the 200-run mark. This pitch is tough to bat on, so Rohit's men should aim to score somewhere near 250 if they want to do perform well with their bowling.
India 148/6 in 36.4 overs- WICKET India are scrambling at a very good pace. The last match's centurion Ravindra Jadeja is back to the pavilion without bothering the visitors. India have now lost more than half the side before reaching the 150-run mark. The pitch is proving out to be very difficult to bat on. The Indian spin trio would be pleased to see that. R Ashwin joins Shreyas Iyer.
Rishabh Pant goes back to the pavilion.
India 126/5 in 32.4 overs- WICKET Rishabh Pant continues to play in his usual approach as he starts off with scoring quick boundaries post-tea. And, just now Pant perishes by Embudeniya. Pant was playing over aggressively throughout his innings. The southpaw has been bowling brilliantly and has managed to upset the Indian batters. Sir Ravindra Jadeja arrives at the crease.
India 86/4 in 27.3 overs- WICKET Big wicket for India. Virat Kohli's century drought continues. The ball stayed very low before turning in to find Virat plumb in front of the wickets. India will have to bat very carefully after tea as they need to take their innings score to a decent total. Shreyas Iyer arrives to join Pant in the middle.
India 76/3 in 26.2 overs- WICKET Vihari is gone. Another good wicket for the visitors in the first session. Vihari was playing really well along with Kohli after the Indian openers couldn't provide them a decent start. But, the spinners are bowling very tight in the right areas making life difficult for the batters. India surely wouldn't spend a good tea. Rishabh Pant comes in.
India's openers are back to the pavilion with the scores still under 50.
India 29/2 in 9.3 overs- WICKET India now lose Rohit Sharma. Embuldeniya strikes for the visitors as he manages to extract a nick off Rohit's willow. Big wicket for India. Virat Kohli comes out in the middle at No 4 to join Hanuma Vihari. They should look to settle in and play carefully against the spinners on this sluggish track.
India 24/1 in 7 overs After that dreadful mixup from the Indian opener, India have played sensibly. Vihari who is trying his level best to make this position a permanent one has again started off well. While Rohit also has looked relaxed. Skipper is in no mood to waste opportunities as he is playing his shots on every loose delivery. The hosts should aim to see off this phase and not give away another wicket till lunch.
STAT: The last time before today India lost their first wicket in a Test match to a runout was against England in Kolkata in 2012 (Virender Sehwag).
India 10/1 in 1.3 overs- WICKET That's an ugly way of gifting away your wicket to the opposition, especially off a no-ball. Some much drama in a single ball. Rohit and Mayank opened the innings for the hosts. But, in the second over itself, something bizarre happened for Lankans. RUN-OUT! After a loud appeal from the visitors against Rohit for an lbw, they finally managed to get a wicket by running Mayank out on a no-ball. Waste of a wicket in the first session from India. Hanuma Vihari comes in at his new position No 3.
Skipper Rohit Sharma is all geared up for the day-night Test on Saturday.
India have won the toss and elected to bat first. Rohit Sharma announced one change- Axar Patel replaces Jayant Yadav.
Rohit Sharma's India would be eyeing to wrap up series 2-0
