India vs Australia T20 World Cup Warm-up Match Highlights

  • RESULT: India beat Australia by 8 wickets

  • India started the chase with Rohit-Rahul forging a 68-run opening stand. After Rahul's dismissal, Suryakumar Yadav joined the party and played aggressively with good intent and stitched another 50-run stand with Rohit. The stand-in captain for today's match made way for Hardik Pandya after reaching his half-century. Playing as a specialist batsman Hardik teed off on arrival and played some shots with control and audacity. Although Team India won't be able to get Hardik's bowling services, his batting form will be an additional boost to the team. With warm-up game wins over England and Australia in convincing fashion, a well-oiled Indian team under Virat Kohli will begin their World Cup campaign against Pakistan on October 24. We will meet you again on Super Sunday for the Mother of all Battles. Till then, it's goodbye!

  • India 134/1 after 16 overs - Target 153: Rohit continues to shine as he starts the 15th over with a biggie off Cummins. SKY also contributes by hitting a six of fourth ball over deep square-leg, making it a 14-run over. Suryakumar handsomely goes for another boundary by playing a sweep against Starc.

  • India 113/1 after 14 overs - Target 153: Rohit welcomes Maxwell with a monstrous six to deep mid- wicket . Sharma hits another boundary to get to his fifty in the 14th over. SKY nicely scoops it over the short-fine leg for a one-bounce four to end the over.

  • India 91/1 after 12 overs - Target 153: SKY starts with a positive intent by hitting a boundary to open his account as both the batsmen look to continue the chase smoothly. Rohit smashed a maximum in the twelfth over to keep the RRR under control. Suryakumar ends the over with another boundary to make it a 12-run over.

  • India 73/1 after 10 overs - Target 153: Rahul falls as India lose their first wicket but the opener has set the tone for the chase. He falls for a well-made 31-ball 39 and forged a 68-run stand with Rohit Sharma. Ashton Agar makes the breakthrough but Australia needs wickets in a cluster. Suryakumar Yadav joins Rohit.

  • India 42/0 after 6 overs - Target 153: The Indian openers are going great guns, playing some scintillating shots on both sides of the wicket. It's an excellent start and India have done well in the Powerplay. Australia have used as many as five bowlers with Kane Richardson being the latest to be introduced into the attack. However, they haven't been able to make inroads. Australia needs an opening.

  • India 29/0 after 4 overs - Target 153: Rahul is continuing his rich vein of form as he started the third over with a maximum. Rohit too is in sublime touch as he hit another boundary through the mid-wicket in the fourth over. The chase is well under India's control.

  • India 17/0 after 2 overs - Target 153: Rahul started off with a boundary of the last ball in the first over for India. Rohit bettered that by hitting two consecutive boundaries in the second over in the chase of 153.

Australia 152/5 in 20 overs: What a recovery from Australia and they rode on the back of Steve Smith's half-century. They were 11/3 but Smith along with Maxwell forged a partnership and then Marcus Stoinis with an unbeaten 25-ball 41 provided the much-needed impetus. We will be back for the chase shortly.

  • Australia 146/4 after 19 overs: Stoinis gets into the act and he smashes Chakravarthy for a boundary and a maximum as Australia are inching towards the 150-run mark. Excellent recovery on the back of Steve Smith's half-century.

  • Australia 131/4 after 18 overs: Excellent from Smith as he has raced away to 57 off 44 and has changed gears beautifully, setting the tone of the innings.

  • Australia 118/4 after 17 overs: Half-century for Steve Smith and this has been a fabulous knock from the former Australian skipper. He punishes Shardul Thakur by smacking the bowler for a hat-trick of boundaries and then took a couple to get to his fifty.

  • Australia 102/4 after 16 overs: Varun Chakravarthy rolls his arm over and the mystery bowler starts well. Stoinis played a reverse shot but the bowler did well to bounce back and finish the over without conceding any further boundaries.

  • Australia 94/4 after 15 overs: The last overs have yielded 37 runs with the loss of one wicket but India won't mind that as Australia are in desperate need of some wickets.

  • Australia 86/4 after 14 overs: Ashwin is back into the attack and he doesn't take a hat-trick. He was on a hat-trick after picking two consecutive wickets in his previous over. Smith and Stoinis deal in singles.

  • Australia 81/4 after 13 overs: Kohli is back with the ball and this time Stoinis puts away a long hop to the deep mid-wicket boundary. Eight runs from the Kohli over and Australia in need of some big hits.

  • Australia 73/4 after 12 overs: Rahul Chahar gets his first wicket as he removes the dangerous Glenn Maxwell. The Big Show falls just when Australia required him to step up the ante. Marcus Stoinis is the new man in.

  • Australia 68/3 after 11 overs: The fifty-run partnership between Maxwell and Smith is up and it has come in good time, in 46 deliveries. Maxwell is gradually freeing his arms and is looking good to go for his shots. Jadeja gets a touch expensive as he gives 11 in his penultimate over.

  • Australia 57/3 after 10 overs: Steve Smith is batting on 22 off 24 and Glenn Maxwell is 23 off 18 balls. Rahul Chahar bowls yet another good over and Australia have crossed the 50-run mark.

  • Australia 49/3 after 9 overs: Ravindra Jadeja is back and has changed ends. Smith is looking good and he fetches a boundary and with an in-form Maxwell, Australia is slowly rebuilding.

  • Australia 42/3 after 8 overs: Rahul Chahar into the attack and the leg-spinner does well as he concedes just four from his opening over.

  • Australia 38/3 after 7 overs: Right then we have Virat Kohli with the ball and the India captain starts with a sem-up delivery. He gives four singles to end his over and this has been a good start by the Indians.

  • Australia 34/3 after 6 overs: Jadeja runs through another over but this time Maxwell gets into his act by smashing two back to back boundaries to provide Australia with some momentum.

  • Australia 20/3 after 5 overs: Shardul Thakur is introduced into the attack as Glenn Maxwell has walked in with his side in deep trouble. Steve Smith and Maxwell have a job in their hands while Thakur would aim to maintain the pressure on the Australians. Meanwhile, MS Dhoni, Team India's mentor is busy with some wicket-keeping drills with Rishabh Pant.

  • Australia 14/3 after 4 overs: Ravindra Jadeja strikes in his very first ball as he traps the Australian skipper. Finch departs for just 8 and Australia start in a poor fashion in Powerplay.

  • Australia 11/2 after 3 overs: Bhuvneshwar Kumar almost pulled off a stunning one-handed catch but the ball didn't stick to his hand as Aaron Finch got a life. Steve Smith has joined Finch.

  • Australia 6/2 after 2 overs: R Ashwin strikes in his very first over as he removed David Warner and Mitchell Marsh to earn himself a hat-trick. Australia in trouble after opting to bat first as the Indian off-spinner has given India an early advantage. He first trapped Warner, who fell while playing a reverse sweep and then forced an outside edge to pack off Marsh.

  • Australia 3/0 after 1 over: Excellent start from Bhuvneshwar Kumar as he hasn't let the Australian openers attack and bowled a couple of lovely outswingers that beat the outside edge of both Warner and Finch. Ishan Kishan is keeping wickets instead of Rishabh Pant

  • Right then we are all set for the match to start and it will be David Warner and Aaron Finch who will open the batting for Australia. For India, it will be Bhuvneshwar Kumar who will start proceedings with the new ball. Here we go!

  • Playing XI

India (11 batting, 11 fielding): KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma(c), Ishan Kishan, Rishabh Pant(w), Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Rahul Chahar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Shardul Thakur, Varun Chakravarthy

Australia (11 batting, 11 fielding): David Warner, Aaron Finch(c), Mitchell Marsh, Steven Smith, Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Wade(w), Ashton Agar, Mitchell Starc, Josh Inglis, Kane Richardson, Adam Zampa, Mitchell Swepson, Glenn Maxwell, Pat Cummins

  • Toss - Australia won the toss and opted to bat first against India. Rohit Sharma will be captaining the side as Virat Kohli is rested. Along with Kohli, Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah are also rested.
  • Captain's Speak: Rohit Sharma - Kohli, Bumrah and Shami are resting today. We wanted to bat first as well, just wanted to try and get runs on the board. We want to make sure that we get the 6th bowling option, some options in the batting order as well, we'll try all those things today. Hardik is coming along pretty well, but it'll be a while before he will start to bowl. He hasn't started bowling, but he should be ready by the start of the tournament. We have quality in the main bowlers, but you need an option for a 6th bowler.

Aaron Finch - We will bat first. Batted second in the last game, so looking to change things up a bit. It's going very well at the moment. Josh Hazlewood is the only one who'll not take the field today. Mitchell Swepson and Josh Inglis aren't playing as well.

  • Weather Report - It will remain sunny throughout the day with temperatures hovering between 27-36 degrees celsius. Strong winds are expected -- particularly during the afternoon with speeds likely to go past 23 km/h.
