New York: Batting legend Sachin Tendulkar has advocated for improvement in relations between India and Pakistan.

Sachin said that the ball is entirely on the respective government's court to take a call on the resumption of bilateral cricket ties.

He said that if the governments of the two countries feel a bilateral cricket series is the 'ideal way' to move forward then it should be held.

"These are issues which the two countries' government needs to decide," Sachin told reporters here when asked about the hardships that has come up in the proposed bilateral series between India and Pakistan in UAE in December.

"Also I think that the relations (between India and Pakistan) need to improve. If the governments feel that this (cricket) is the ideal way to move forward and the (cricket) boards (feel so), I do not see any reason why we should not play," he further said, adding that '(but) if they (governments) feel it is inappropriate then we have to abide by them'.

Recently, former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has said that New Delhi and Islamabad must start a dialogue to pave the way for the revival of regular cricket matches between India and Pakistan.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is awaiting a response from their counterparts -- Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) -- for a proposed series in December-January to be played in United Arab Emirates.

The series is one of six agreed between the PCB and BCCI under a MoU signed last year, all subject to clearance from the respective governments. But the current strained political situation with regular ceasefire violations from both sides and cancellation of talks between the security advisers of the two countries in August leaves the series in serious doubt.
