IND vs AUS: India's world record of a consecutive home series win was on Wednesday brought down by the mighty Aussies as Steve Smith's men registered a victory at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. India lost the match by 21 runs to concede the three-match ODI series by 1-2.
Rohit Sharma's men were bowled out for 248 in the 50th over despite being in the chase for most of the time. Virat Kohli hit a wonderful fifty, while the openers and middle-order contributed. But India lost key wickets at crucial moments and that took the match away from the hosts. Adam Zampa proved to be a big threat with his four-wicket haul. He took the crucial wickets of Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja which proved to be match-turning. Shami inspired a bit of a fightback with a four and a six but it was way too much as India got bundled out for 248.
India's first loss after 25 series across formats
Notably, India had a world record of being unbeaten at home for 25 consecutive series across all formats since 2019. This is their first series loss against any team at home in four years. The last team to beat India in India was Australia, who won the three-match ODI series by 3-2 in March 2019.
Australia become No.1 ODI side
With this series win, Australia have also taken the crown of being the No.1 ODI team in the world away from India. The Men in Blue were the top-ranked side before the match with 114 rating points, compared to Australia's 112. But after this match, Australia racked up 113.286 ratings, while India have 112.638. Australia are the No.1 team in Test cricket too. Earlier India lost the second ODI of the series by 10 wickets as Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh remained unbeaten to chase India's paltry total of 117 inside 11 overs. India had won the first ODI by 5 wickets as KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja helped the side chase down a sub-par 189 in 39.5 overs to take a 1-0 lead.
