New Delhi: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced major amendments to the one-day international (ODI) and Twenty20 rules with most of the key decisions giving bowlers a fighting chance.
ICC chief executive David Richardson yesterday said that the body thoroughly reviewed the ODI format after a very successful ICC Cricket World Cup.
"In making these adjustments, we have tried to ensure that ODI cricket retains the attacking, aggressive and thrilling brand, which has recently become the hallmark of 50-over cricket and sets us on a positive path to the next World Cup in England in 2019," Richardson said.
The new changes are:
No compulsory catchers in overs 1-10 (ODI)
No batting powerplay between overs 15-40 (ODI)
Five fielders will be allowed outside the 30-yard circle in the last 10 overs of an innings (ODI)
A free-hit will be awarded to the batsman for all no-balls in ODI and T20, instead of being reserved for overstepping only.
Whether or not the Decision Review System will be put into use will depend on the respective cricket boards of the countries.
These playing conditions will come into effect for series starting on or after 5 July 2015.
