Cape Town, South Africa: Debutant Simon Harmer struck on the stroke of lunch to earn South Africa a share of the first session of the third and final test against the West Indies at Newlands on Friday.
Off spinner Harmer was picked ahead of legspinner Imran Tahir as South Africa opted to explore its spin options, and bowled Devon Smith for 47 to leave West Indies 80-2 at lunch.
Dale Steyn took the other wicket after West Indies won the toss and elected to bat first, as he had Kraigg Brathwaite caught at gully for 7.
South Africa leads the series 1-0, and must avoid defeat in the final match to retain its No. 1 ranking in tests.
