Perth, Jul 1: South African batsman Herschelle Gibbs has signed with the Perth Scorchers in Australia's revamped Twenty20 competition.
The Scorchers, coached by South African Mickey Arthur, made the announcement Friday as one of the team's two internationals and a day after the side lost a bidding war for Chris Gayle of the West Indies, who opted against returning to Perth.
Gibbs, 37, is the seventh-leading scorer in Twenty20 history with 2,673 runs at an average of 26.20 and a strike rate of 125.
The South African demonstrated his hitting power with six sixes in one over in the 2007 one-day World Cup and one of his best innings was an 111-ball 175 against Australia in 2006 in Johannesburg in a one-dayer. AP
