Shane Warne

Warne claimed his 600th victim when he dismissed Marcus Trescothick at Old Trafford in the epic Ashes series of 2005. At times, the Australian leg-spinner appeared to be battling England single-handed and he finished the series with 41 wickets in a stirring show of defiance in a losing cause.

In the last Test at The Oval, Warne gestured to the crowd that he was close to tears as home fans chanted ‘we only wish you were English' after a prolonged period of mocking the superstar.

In 2007 in Sydney Warne announced his retirement amid much fanfare at the MCG. He held court in a packed conference room where even the chefs at the ground came in to listen to the icon. He went on to reach 700 wickets in his last Test in his home city of Melbourne.
