Chennai, Apr 16: Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Daniel Vettori today admitted that the fielding had been the difference between the two teams in his team's loss to Chennai Super Kings at the M A Chidambaram Stadium here.
Bangalore lost by 21 runs to CSK, a match in which the visitors dropped three catches, including that of Michael Hussey on 8. Hussey went on to make 83.
“Yeah, I think fielding is what cost us the game, it's a huge component, we dropped Hussey early on, and probably two other catches, I can think of 10 runs in the field that went through,” Vettori said.
Asked how he was going to turn around the fielding performance of the team, Vettori said, “I think it's an attitude thing. It's all about energy. A couple of things went wrong today, big crowd, lot of noise, lot of pressure, (but) it's still about attitude.”
Vettori said batsmen like Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers should be supported by others.
“They're big-time players, everyone knows how good they are, but they need people to help them out too, we can't rely on them every game.”
Asked about Tilakrathne Dilshan's poor run of form, he said, “I think you always expect a lot from your key player. We expect a lot from ourselves in the IPL.”
But he maintained that as far as he was concerned, RCB lost the game due to a “little bit of fielding and little bit of bowling” and not due to batting. PTI
