ABERDEEN, Scotland : England's new era under coach Peter Moores began with a 39-run win over Scotland in a rain-blighted one-day international that was reduced to 20 overs a side on Friday.
After the start was delayed by more than five hours, Alastair Cook (44) and Ian Bell (50) shared an 83-run opening stand before a middle-order collapse saw England stutter to 167-6 in northern Scotland. Eoin Morgan weighed in with 31.
The target was adjusted to 173 using the D/L method but Scotland didn't get close despite some lusty hitting by Michael Leask, who smashed five sixes in a 16-ball 42.
This was a warm-up for England ahead of a Twenty20 international and five-match one-day series against touring Sri Lanka starting May 20.
