DC vs MI WPL 2025 final Highlights: Mumbai Indians beat Delhi by 8 runs to lift second WPL title

(On Ismail) What a brilliant performance. When the team needed it, to come and produce a performance like this. She is a fighter, she wants to lead from the front. That is what we want as a group. When you are in the dugout, you cannot be calm but you have to pretend to be calm. We needed wickets in the powerplay, and that was the clear message. When that happened, we felt we were in a position to control the game, and that made our dugout absolutely calm. (On Goswami-Edwards partnership) It started after retirement, working with her. It was a great learning experience and every moment, I learn new things. A very tactical person, and she always keeps me on her toes. When we used to play as opponents, we learnt from her mentality and leadership, and here also, trying to do the same. This team has plenty of potential. We have depth in the batting, lot of international stars, lots of promising youngsters - it is a well-balanced team, and it is important to keep them in the right frame of mind and give them space to enjoy their game. (What impressed her the most in season three) Nat's commitment. We all know her partner is expecting (a baby). To come here, take leadership and dominate - it is not easy. And some youngsters who performed brilliantly for us.

MI are a force to reckon with in IPL and now in WPL too. This is their second title in three seasons and they are bossing this league. They lost the Eliminator last year but are back at the top this year.

Mumbai Indians have done it. Nat Sciver-Brunt holds her nerve and MI win this. This is their second WPL title.

Niki Prasad hits this one for a six and DC need 14 from the final over. This is alive but only just

Minnu Mani edges this to backward point. DC are now 9 down. They still need 22 from 10 balls.

Nat Sciver has another. Shikha Pandey has been bowled. DC are now 8 down.

That's another big wicket. Kapp was a key batter here and she has holed this out to long on. She goes for 40. DC need 27 from 14.

Niki Prasad gets a four on the last ball of Ismail's over to bring the equation down to 29 from 18. This game is sitting on the knife's edge

Marizanne Kapp and Niki Prasad are fighting in the middle. They have put up 98 in 15 overs and need another 52 from 30 balls. There is hope still, but Kapp would need to pull this off for DC

Another one gone. DC are six down now. Sarah Bryce is run out as there is a mix-up between her and Kapp. 

This is a huge wicket in the context of the game. DC's hopes might have gone with this wicket. After hitting two fours in the 11th over of Amelia, Jemimah top edges one to the bowler and is gone.

This is not going well for DC. They are snailing here and have put up only 58 from first 10 overs having also lost 4 wickets. Jemimah holds the key here.

DC are shooting themselves down here. Sutherland gone and they are now 4 down. Isahque gets Sutherland stumped-behind as the batter charged down only to miss the ball and get dismissed. DC 44/4 after 8 now. They need 106 from 72

She hasn't been in good form in this season, but Jemimah would want to change this. Can she do it on the night of the final?

Jonassen is gone now. Third one down for DC. She top-edged this pull and is caught by Yastika Bhatia. Amelia has a wicket in her first over. DC are now three down and in serious trouble.

MI have struck twice in the powerplay and are keeping things tight. Nat Sciver-Brunt got Lanning and then Ismail dismissed Shafali.

The two DC openers - Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma - are out in the middle for one final time this season. They will look for a blistering start. Will Shafali give them one here? Shabnim Ismail has the new ball in her hand. Off we go in the chase.

Welcome to the run-chase. 20 overs from now will decide the winner of WPL 2025. Will DC get their hand to their first title, or will MI lift their second crown? We will find that out soon.

(On the misfield right at the end) Hard to be happy if all three skills do not come off, will be really happy if we chase that total down. The last few finals have not been great for me personally, so really want to win and get over the line. We have played wonderfully in the last few years. (On the outfield) It is lightning quick. At the start, it was not as quick but if you hit it in the gap, it is four.

25 runs from the final two overs, despite Harmanpreet not being there. MI have ended well here. Amanjot and Sanskriti with some late hits. MI would feel they have runs on the board in the big final.

And now that's the body blow. Harmanpreet Kaur has been caught out at deep cover. She wanted to go all the way but finds Kapp at the deep. It's the end of a fine knock. MI are in big trouble here at 118/6 after 17.1

Amelia Kerr's dry run continues. She has been caught at mid-off here. Change of pace works for Jonassen as she dropped her pace and pitched this close to the batter. Kerr gifts this to mid-off. Sajana is now in. Sajana is gone, too. She reviews an LBW call, but to no avail, as this is the umpire's call, and the umpire called it out. Three quick wickets and MI are now in trouble again.

Nallapureddy Charani gets the big fish, Nat Sciver-Brunt. A much-needed wicket for the Capitals. Nat whips this hard to square leg and is caught out. Amelia Kerr is now in.

Both these batters are going strong, sharing loads of being the aggressor. This is good batting by Mumbai and a great middle phase. They have breached past 100 in the 14th over. 

Harmanpreet Kaur is turning it on once again. She is standing tall on the night of the final. She gets to her fifty with a four in between mid-wicket and long on.

Harmanpreet Kaur and Nat Sciver-Brunt are now taking the bowlers on. They have hit four boundaries in the last two overs. MI 53/2 after 10. They were at 20/2 after 6.

We are seven overs into the final and Kapp has bowled out her quota of overs. She has got both the openers and has given only 11 runs. How crucial this spell can be in the final? Only time will tell.

DC bowlers are doing the job well here. They have kept the lid on the MI batters. MI get to only 20/2 after 6 overs. What a start for DC.

And the other Mumbai opener is gone too. Yastika looked to get this over covers, but she did not get the elevation. Jemimah takes a very good low catch. Both MI openers are back in little over four overs. 

Kapp gets Matthews. That's a big wicket. Matthews was the in-form batter and she has been cleaned-up. This one swing away but then nipped back in to clean the batter. 

Kapp and Shikha Pandey are sharing the new ball. There is swing up front for the bowlers and DC would want to cash that in. A tight start so far.

Hayley Matthews and Yastika Bhatia are out in the middle to open the things for MI. Mumbai go with Yastika after trying Amelia in few games at the top. Marizanne Kapp has the new ball in her hand. Off we go.

Even we were looking to bowl. But I think anything is good for us. If we look at the stats of the last four games, team batting first has won. Staying balanced and staying in the moment has worked for us. They've played really good cricket in this tournament. The last week has gone well for us.

Going to have a bowl tonight. Conditions are going to remain the same, and it's worked for us throughout the tournament. We've had some time off to refresh and we're excited about tonight. It's an opportunity for us. Need to play well and hopefully it's our best performance. One change for us.

Meg Lanning has won the toss and she has decided that Delhi Capitals will be bowling first today. 

The toss is not much far away from now. The closing ceremony has gripped the fans at the CCI in joy. They are enjoying their hearts out before all the serious things begin.

Pitch is closer to the center. Square boundaries are 56 meters and 55 meters. Straight boundary is 69 meters. It's a fresh pitch for today. The pitch looks dry and is rolled well. Pretty hard surface - good wicket to bat and lot of runs in store for the batters. There was a lot of dew in the previous game. It is cooler this evening so maybe there won't be that much dew.

A star-studded closing ceremony is setting the tempo for the big final. We have French Montana, Mohamed Ramadan, Jasmine Sandlas, and DJ Shadow performing in the closing ceremony.

DC got a straight entry into the finals as they were table toppers yet again. MI battled hard to reach here. They defeated GG in the Eliminator to meet DC in the final. 

Nat-Sciver Brunt is three runs away from becoming the first player to score 1000 runs in WPL history. She is just seven away from 500 in a single season of WPL. Will she get it today?

Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians have faced each other seven times in the WPL. DC have the wood over MI with a 4-3 lead. One of the three wins for MI over DC included the 2023 final.

Harmanpreet Kaur has tasted this success before, but not on an international level. She led her troops to victory in 2023 after beating Meg Lanning's DC. Lanning has tasted success at all international levels, barring in WPL, before. Will it be Harman's MI doing it again, or will DC finally get the crown?

It's 2025, but it is also 2023. Two years ago, the Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals met each other in the final of the first season of WPL. Two years down the line, they meet each other again. DC have now become serial finalists, having reached here first in all their three attempts. A win in the final has eluded them. Will third time be lucky for Meg Lanning and her women?
