It's fair to say that South Africa have well and truly recovered from the heartbreak endured in the game against the Netherlands in Dharamsala as they routed Bangladesh in the 23rd match of the ongoing World Cup at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday, October 24.
Aiden Markram, who was leading the Proteas against the Bangla Tigers marshalled his troops well as they registered a massive 149-run win to displace New Zealand from the second spot on the points table. The star of the show for South Africa turned out to be their veteran wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock who scored a record-breaking 174 to help his side post a daunting total of 382 on the board batting first. The Proteas have the best net run rate (2.370) in the tournament at the moment and they are placed second behind table-toppers India.
Bangladesh have become the first team in the ongoing edition to suffer four consecutive losses and that has pushed them down to the bottom of the ladder. The Shakib Al Hasan-led side has a dismal net run rate of -1.253 and only two points after five games. It's highly unlikely that they will finish in the top four after the completion of the round-robin stage.
