New Delhi, Sep 27: An Indian court has appointed an arbitrator to mediate a dispute between Deccan Chargers and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after the Indian Premier League team challenged the board's decision to scrap the franchise earlier this month for non-payment of players.

The Times of India reported Thursday the Mumbai High Court had named retired Supreme Court judge C.K. Thakker as the arbitrator to resolve the issue within three months, while also asking the cash-strapped franchise to furnish a bank guarantee of $19 million within 10 days to the BCCI, which runs the IPL.

Deccan Chargers, whose prominent players include captain Kumar Sangakkara of Sri Lanka, South African pace bowler Dale Steyn and Australian big-hitter Cameron White, is valued at $240 million.
