Hobart, Australia: England captain Alistair Cook and Michael Carberry pummeled the Australia A bowlers to post unbeaten centuries Wednesday on the first day of a four-day tour match as the tourists prepare for the first Ashes test against Australia.
Cook, who won the toss and elected to bat, notched 154 runs while Carberry added 153 to leave England at 318-0 at stumps on a flat Bellerive Oval pitch.
It was the first time in more than 15 years that England did not lose a wicket batting for an entire day's play.
Carberry's share in the first-wicket partnership looks likely to secure him a spot opening the batting for England in the first test beginning Nov. 21 in Brisbane.
