New Delhi: West Indies big-hitting batsman Chris Gayle today smashed a swashbuckling 50 in just scored 12 balls, equalling the record set by Indian batsman Yuvraj Singh for the fastest half-century in Twenty-20 cricket.

Star batsman Gayle established the record in the Big Bash League where he was playing for Melbourne Renegades. Yuvraj Singh had achieved the marvellous accomplishment at the first T20 World Cup held in South Africa in 2007. He had smashed England's fast bowler Stuart Broad for six sixes in an over.

The bowler from Gayle's opponent team Adelaide Strikers was a 21-year-old Greg West who was playing his second T20 match. Chris scored 27 runs in the first over and hit sixes in the last four deliveries.

Gayle plundered spinner Travis Head for his seventh six over the long-on boundary which took him past his half-century.

Five deliveries later, Travis dismissed Gayle for a 17-ball 56 with wicketkeeper Tim Ludeman catching him off a top edge.
