Dharamshala, HP, Jan 25: The main waiting in the wings currently in Team India is Cheteshwar Pujara, who is yet to make his ODI international debut.
Pujara was selected for the 15-member team for the ODI series against England, after he made a double and a triple century in Ranji trophy, but has been sitting out on the benches since then.
It was Rohit Sharma who was called in to replace Ajinkya Rahane at the fourth ODI in Mohali, with Pujara sitting and watching.
With much at stake in the Ranji final against Mumbai, the Saurashtra Cricket Association sought the release of Pujara from Team India, but the BCCI refused to accept.
About Pujara's chances, this is what skipper Dhoni had to say.
"Boss, aise nahi hota hai (it doesn't happen this way). On Twitter, they say drop Ishant and play Pujara. There are so many factors to consider. The balance of the team has also to be seen. He is a great talent and will get his chance sooner than later." Period.
If Pujara is not called in for the Dharamshala ODI, he will then have to wait till the Test series against Australia.
