Southampton: The BCCI has appealed against the Level 1 charge brought against Ravindra Jadeja for his alleged altercation with England fast bowler Jimmy Anderson during the first Test at Trent Bridge played between July 9-13, the ICC said on Wednesday.

The ICC has confirmed that, after receiving legal submissions from the BCCI, it has accepted Jadeja's request for an appeal against the recent decision by match referee David Boon. The player was found guilty of an offence under Article 2.1.8 of the Code of Conduct and fined 50% of his match fee.

According to an ICC statement, the appeal will be heard at the same time as the disciplinary hearing taking place in respect of the charge against Anderson August 1 in Southampton. His Honour Gordon Lewis AM, will oversee proceedings via video conference.

The penalty imposed on Jadeja did not go down well with India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who found the match referee's decision unjustified.

The alleged altercation between Jadeja and Anderson took place during the lunch break on the second day of the first cricket Test in Nottingham.

The Indian team management accused Anderson of a Level-3 offence as he had allegedly pushed and abused Jadeja. The England team filed a counter charge of Level 2 offence against the Indian all-rounder.
