Melbourne, Jan 11: Australia beat Sri Lanka by 107 runs in the first One-Day International (ODI) of the Commonwealth Bank Series here Friday.
Australia put on a dominant batting show after skipper George Bailey won the toss and elected to bat.
Phil Hughes became the first Australian ODI player to score a ton on debut, notching up an impressive 112.
Bailey (89) and David Hussey (60 not out) both contributed to the run tally, with Australia posting 305/5 in 50 overs.
In reply, Sri Lanka were all out for 198 in the 40th over.
Clint McKay (4/33) was the best of Aussie bowlers, with Mitchell Johnson (2/43) and Mitchell Starc (1/25) also taking wickets.
Hughes was named the Man of the Match.
The second of the five ODIs will be played in Adelaide Sunday.
