1996 :

This tour had a bad start as India lost the one day series 2-0 and were completely outclassed by the England players. Mohammed Azharuddin who was leading his side was out of his touch as he scored just 42 runs in five test innings  and the leadership issue.
The Indian team found it hard to get adjusted to bitter cold in the cold English conditions India lost the first Test at Birmingham by eight wickets after their batting, with the exception of Tendulkar (122) failed to fire. But they bounced back at Lord's where they had the better of a draw, and a high-scoring draw at Nottingham was notable for hundreds from Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly on one side and Nasser Hussain and Mike Atherton on the other. The series will also be remembered for the infamous for a spat between Azharuddin and opener Navjot Singh Sidhu, with the latter eventually walking out of the tour as a result. After this tour as expected Mohammed Azharuddin was sacked from his position of Team India's captain. This series will be remembered because it was in this tour that India fans and cricket lovers got the first glimpse of the two cricketers who will be at the helm of Indian cricket for the next decade. The two cricketer were Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly .
