Indian captain Virat Kohli, as well as all the team members, attended an event in London with India's legendary World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev, and team's coach Ravi Shastri. Kohli will aim to emulate Kapil Dev's heroics in the World Cup, as he prepares to lead the team in the tournament.
The debuting event, Indian Cricket Heroes recognised the very best of Indian professional cricket around the world in a ceremony to reward, reflect and rejoice the heroes of the game and is set to become an annual event.
Legendary cricketers including The Indian national team, world-class batsman and man of the tournament at ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 Yuvraj Singh and Indian 1983 ICC Cricket World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev were all in attendance ahead of the kick off of the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup in the UK amongst others.
Ravi Shastri shared a picture of the terrific trio from the event, with the caption, "About last night - with @cricketworldcup 1983 winning skipper @therealkapildev & #TeamIndia captain @imVkohli #CWC19."
India will begin their campaign in the World Cup on June 5 against South Africa, but will play two warm-up games prior to the beginning of the tournament. Their first warm-up match will be against New Zealand on May 25 (tomorrow) at The Oval.
Indian Cricket Heroes, an initiative by RP Sanjiv Goenka Group, Cornerstone Founder Bunty Sajdeh and Star Sports, is a recognition platform which aims to elevate the stature of cricket by recognising and rewarding Indian cricketers around the world. ICH will be held annually in different
countries, with the inauguration taking place in London ahead of the 2019 ICC World Cup.
Earlier, captain Virat Kohli interacted with the media alongside all the captains for the official press conference, where he talked about the competition in the tournament, as well as the preparations in the Indian camp.
"There will be teams that will have to make sure that they get a result. So they are going to be under pressure to chase even a small score down. In pressure games in a World Cup, you might get a team that gets on a roll but I think both teams would like to start in a balanced way and find their way into the game and look to capitalise when the moment comes," Kohli said.
