In what can be known as an emphatic and resounding win, a cricket team in Australia hammered a whopping total of 596/3 in 50 overs and astonishingly, they bundled out the opposition for 25 runs, winning by a mammoth 571 runs.
The run-scoring fest took place in a match between the Northern Districts and Port Adelaide in the SACA PC Statewide Super Women’s 1st Grade match.
It was the Northern Districts who hammered Port Adelaide by 571 runs as four batswomen scored their respective centuries - Tegan McPharlin, Sam Betts, Tabitha Saville and Darcie Brown. Remarkably, they also kept the run-rate over 12 runs to reach the colossal total.
It was McPharlin who was the top scorer for the Northern Districts, thrashing 130 runs off 80 balls. Betts put up a blistering 124* off 71 deliveries.
Saville had the best run-rate, smashing 120 runs in 56 balls and the fourth century came from Brown who put up 117 from 84 balls.
The Districts were also helped by indisciplined bowling by the opposition, giving a total of 88 extras, including 75 wides bowled.
It was a real blitzkrieg attack by the Northern Districts, to then bundle out Port Adelaide for 25 runs.
The largest ever total in 50 overs is Mpumalanga’s 1/690 against Kei in a girls under-19s match in Johannesburg, South Africa in 2010/11.
Northern District's 596/3 is the highest total in Australia and third globally for women's cricket and fifth overall in the world.
The highest score in a 50-overs One Day International match is 490/4, by New Zealand's women against Ireland in June.
