New Delhi: The famed Ashes Series has witnessed several record-breaking performances from the sides - England and Australia. One such incident happened exactly 23 years ago during an Ashes match in Manchester in 1993.
Australia’s spin legend Shane Warne was playing on the English soil for the first time in his career and he bowled the ‘ball of the century’ to Mike Gatting.
It was a flighted delivery that pitched way outside the leg-stump, but turned sharply hitting Gatting’s off-stump.
Not only Gatting but also Warne’s teammates were stunned seeing the unusual turn the ball took.
Before announcing retirement in 2013, Warne scalped 708 wickets in 145 Test matches and 293 wickets in 194 ODIs.
