India will face New Zealand in the opener of the World T20

The Indian women's players will take on New Zealand in their first match of the ICC Women's World T20 in West Indies on Friday and Team India's 'HITMAN', Rohit Sharma, has a special message for the Indian eves ahead of their campaign.

“Best wishes to our women’s cricket team for the T20 World Cup who will be taking on New Zealand cricket team tonight. I’m very optimistic for this one and I’m sure, they’ll bring glory to our country. All the very best," Rohit said in a video which he posted on Twitter. Take a look.

India are placed in Group B along with Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan and Ireland in the 10-team event and the Indian eves will begin their campaign against New Zealand in Guyana on November 9, followed by matches against arch-rivals Pakistan (November 11), Ireland (November 15) and Australia (November 17).

A young Indian squad will aim to emerge from the shadows of a winless past when it launches its bid for a maiden title with a tough opener against New Zealand in the first standalone Women's World T20 starting on Friday.

India have not been very competitive in the shortest format compared to the 50-over game in which they scripted a path-breaking moment last year when they reached the World Cup final.

In the end, nerves got the better of them and they lost the title clash to England after being in complete control at one stage.

India have never won the World T20 in their previous five attempts with their best result, a semifinal appearance, coming in 2009 and 2010. This is the first stand-alone World T20 for women after being held alongside the men's event in the past editions.
