In what may come as sad news for Indian cricket fans, Virat Kohli had to walk off the field after suffering an injury on his right shoulder while attempting to save a boundary in the middle of the afternoon session of the Ranchi Test against Australia.

Soon after lunch, Peter Handscomb smashed a delivery slightly wide of mid-on and Kohli gave it a spirited chase. While he dived and saved the boundary, Kohli jammed his right shoulder on the ground was seen grimacing in pain.

Kohli managed to get up back on his feet but he did seem to be uncomfortable. Without taking any chances, he walked off the field with the team’s physio. Vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane took charge of the team in Kohli’s absence.

Contrary to his excellent form in the home season, Kohli has been running out of form in the ongoing series against Australia. He has managed just 40 runs in the last four innings.

In the first Test in Pune, he fell for his first duck in India and then perished shouldering arms to Steeve O’Keefe in the second innings. In the Bengaluru Test, Kohli failed to get going against the Australian spinners.

Kohli was also involved in a controversy after his Australian counterpart Smith was caught looking toward the dressing room balcony for advice on DRS appeal against his dismissal.

A furious Kohli lashed out at Smith and even rubbished his ‘brain fade’ excuse, saying that the Aussies had tried to seek support staff assistance with referrals twice previously.
