New Delhi: We have heard lately that comparison between cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar and India’s rising star Virat Kohli are unfair. However, the latter, with his stellar performance, looks determined to prove otherwise.

In today’s IPL clash against Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led Rising Pune Supergiants, Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli not only smashed the second century in the tournament, he also broke Tendulkar’s record of scoring 500 runs in two separate editions of the IPL as captain.

The right-handed batsman continued with his terrific form today and smashed 108 runs off just 58 deliveries that included eight fours and seven sixes. The feat has propelled him as the first captain in IPL to score more than 500 runs in three different editions.

Before today’s match began, Kohli had scored 433 runs in seven matches and required another 67 runs to break Master Blaster’s record.

Tendulkar has reached the coveted landmark twice for Mumbai Indians. He scored 618 runs in 2010 and 553 runs in 2011.

On the other hand, Kohli scored 634 runs in 2013, 505 runs in 2015 and is now the highest run-getter in IPL 2016 so far with 541 runs in eight matches.

Apart from Kohli, two more IPL captains have scored 500-plus runs in a season. Gautam Gambhir as KKR skipper scored 590 runs in 17 matches in 2012, whereas David Warner achieved the feat in 2015 with 562 runs in 14 matches while leading Sunrisers Hyderabad.
