New Delhi: Virat Kohli seems to be at the peak of his cricket career. After his excellent batting performance in the T20 series against Australia, Asia Cup and then the World T20, Virat has continued with his exquisite form in the Indian Premier League.
Leading the quest for the Orange Cap for this season, Kohli smashed a flurry of records. Lets take a look.
- With 752 runs in 12 innings so far, Virat has smashed Chris Gayle’s record for scoring most runs in a single IPL season. Gayle had made 733 runs in 14 innings in IPL 2012.
- During his 109-run inning against Gujarat Lions, Kohli surpassed Robin Uthappa’s record for most runs by an Indian batsman in a single IPL season.
- Virat Kohli is the first batsman to score three centuries in a single season. He has smashed three centuries and five half centuries in IPL season 9 so far.
- Kohli is the only IPL captain to score 500-plus runs in three different seasons of the league. He surpassed Sachin Tendulkar’s record, who as a captain of Mumbai Indians, reached the coveted landmark twice – 618 runs in 2010 season and 553 runs in 2011 season.
- With his excellent batting form in 2016, Kohli broke Suresh Raina’s record for most runs by an Indian batsman in T20 cricket in a year. With his tally of 1377 runs, he smashed Raina’s record of 1042 runs which the latter scored in 2010.
