Indian Test Captain Virat Kohli will be presented with the Test championship mace after the end of the third and final Test against New Zealand at the Holkar Stadium here, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced on Tuesday.
On behalf of the ICC, former India captain and ICC Cricket Hall of Famer Sunil Gavaskar will make the presentation immediately after the awards ceremony for the series.
Team India pushed down arch-rivals Pakistan from the numero uno spot in the ICC Test rankings with the win against over New Zealand in the Kolkata Test, second match of the series.
India is assured of the top spot, but will officially overtake Pakistan at the top only when the rankings are updated at the end of the series.
India's top spot is guaranteed irrespective of how the Indore Test pans out.
Kohli's side had entered the series against New Zealand trailing Pakistan by one point and needed to win the series to reclaim the number one position for the fourth time since the current rankings system was introduced in 2003.
The mace was produced by the then British Crown Jeweller, Asprey and Garrard, in 2001, which was commissioned to make a distinctive prize designed to stand out from other cricket trophies.
It was valued at $36,894 (30,000 pounds) in 2001 and automatically passes from one team to another as results confirm a change of leadership in the ICC Test team rankings chart.
India has previously been at the top of the table from November 2009 to August 2011 and then briefly during January-February 2016 and in August 2016.
