Former Australia captain Steve Smith, who is currently serving a one-year ban from international cricket over the infamous ball-tampering scandal which took place last year, on Thursday pulled out of the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League due to an elbow injury.
Smith featured in just two matches in the BPL T20 tournament for his franchise Comilla Victorians.
Smith underwent an MRI scan and sent the report to Australia for further investigation. The doctors in Australia then advised him to return home immediately.
Smith, who was leading the Victorians, scored 13 runs in his two outings.
The former Australia skipper's addition to BPL made headlines after the organisers had to alter the rules to accommodate him.
Smith's participation was previously blocked by the Bangladesh Cricket Board following protests from other franchises who raised objections as his name was not part of the initial players' draft.
