The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) announced that opener Danushka Gunathilaka has been suspended for six international matches for breaching the 'Player Code of Conduct and Contractual Obligation'.
The 27-year-old left-handed batsman was officially reprimanded for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the Twenty20 International tri-series against Bangladesh earlier in January. Gunathilaka had given Bangladesh batsman Tamim Iqbal a send-off, which earned him one demerit point.
Along with the six-month ban, Gunathilaka will not be paid for the second Test against South Africa. Gunathilaka was booked for a breach of the contract during the second and final Test between Sri Lanka and South Africa in Colombo.
The board had earlier suspended the batsman from all forms of international cricket, pending inquiry.
