The spirits couldn't have been as uplifted as the visitors suffered a crushing loss to India on the second day of the one-off Test itself.

India declared after setting up a mammoth total of 437 with Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay's hundreds and KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya's half-centuries. (IND vs AFG MATCH HIGHLIGHTS)

Afghanistan came across painfully short of experience for the longest format and were bowled out for 109 and 103 in pursuit of India's first innings total of 474 all out on Friday. The hosts won by an innings and 262 runs at the M Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru. (IND vs AFG SCORECARD)

The gulf in class was a reality but the Test match exposed their inability to understand the needs of the longest format. Their performance lends support to the demands for a two-tier Test format, which could get them battle-ready for future series.
