Angelo Mathews has been made the scapegoat of the Asia Cup debacle.

Having already sacked Angelo Mathews as the captain of the Sri Lankan team, the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Board today axed the allrounder from the team as well when they chose to not select him for the upcoming series against England. The reason cited by the authorities is that Mathews was deemed 'unfit' to play the game at the highest level and hence dropped from the side.

The sacking comes in the immediate aftermath of Sri Lanka's unceremonious exit from the ongoing Asia Cup in the UAE where they were knocked after losing both their group stage matches against Bangladesh and Afghanistan respectively. However, Angelo did find a place in the Test side.

The island nation is slated to play 5 ODIs, 3 Tests and a one-off T20I against England starting from October 10.
