Rohit Sharma has broken the record of Indian skipper Virat Kohli in his absence during the second T20I in Lucknow. Kohli is rested from the ongoing T20I series against the West Indies and his deputy Rohit is in charge of the men-in-blue. The stylish opener was just 11 runs short of Kohli's tally of most runs by an Indian in T20Is before the Lucknow match. Rohit made the perfect outcome from the golden opportunity to achieve the feat.
Kohli is now second on the score charts with 2,102 runs in 62 matches at an average of 48.88. The stand-in skipper had a chance in the previous match to surpass the 30-year old, but he got out cheaply for just six runs but he didn't miss out this time in the second match of the series.
The Maverick Mumbaikar has three centuries in T20Is while the dynamic Delhi batsman is still searching for his first. We have been witnessing it for quite some time that Kohli has taken rest from various T20s as his primary focus is to play the longer formats. The Indian skipper has also expressed his dismay on tinkering with the longer formats of the game and opposes the T10 format.
Recently, Pakistan opener Babar Azam also broke one of the Kohli's records. The No.1 T20I batsman surpassed the 30-year old's feat of fastest 1000 runs in T20Is.
India's last win against the West Indies in the shortest version before Sunday was way back on March 23, 2014, in the World T20 in Bangladesh.
