New Delhi: An Indian national was booked regarding the alleged rape in Zimbabwe but he is not a member of the Indian Cricket Team, official sources said today.
"We have spoken to our Ambassador to Zimbabwe. The report by media is totally false. No Indian cricketer is involved," said the official sources in the Ministry of External Affairs, refuting the claims made by media that an Indian cricketer had connection with an alleged rape case in capital Harare.
However, a source revealed that "an Indian affiliated with one of the sponsors has been arrested".
"He has also denied the charge and said he is ready for a DNA test to prove his innocence," the source added.
Local media in Zimbabwe on Friday reported that an unnamed Indian cricketer was arrested for allegedly raping a local woman in Harare.
Team India is in Zimbabwe for T20 and One-Day International (ODI) series.
Yesterday, Zimbabwe pulled off a huge upset in the T20 series opener, defeating India by 2 runs.
After clinching the One-Day International series 3-0, it was expected to be a cakewalk for the Indians in the T20Is as well.
But the hosts did well with both the bat and ball and the young Indian side was tested for the first time on the tour on Saturday.
