The stage is set, the buyers are ready to spend and the players are ready to play in the lucrative Indian Premier League. The IPL 2019 players auction is all set to take place in Jaipur, Rajasthan. 346 players will go under the hammer to represent a franchise in the cash-rich IPL.
However, there is one big change in this year's auction and that is Richard Madley presence. The auctioneer, who has been present in the IPL auctions since its inaugural edition, will not entertain us with is unique antics this time.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) introduced a new auctioneer, Hugh Edmeades, who will replace Madley for this year's edition. The BCCI uploaded a short video on their Facebook page.
There will be a total of 346 cricketers going under the hammer by Edmeades in this edition of the auction.
With the rule of having 7 Indians in the playing XI in the IPL, the domestic players always get an edge over the foreign ones. Also, due to their availability during the entire course of the tournament, Indian players usually attract far greater bids at auctions.
Earlier, Madley was the heart and soul of IPL auction since 2008, where he sold players like Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Adam Gilchrist. Recently, Madley also shared the most glorious moment of his IPL auction journey when he revealed bidding of MS Dhoni was his most important one.
While it is sad to know we will no longer witness his services as he also revealed that BCCI ended his contract in just one-line email.
It will be a new journey for IPL fans under Edmeades and hopefully a good one.
The auction will take place on December 18 in Jaipur, Rajasthan and the bidding is expected to begin from 2.30 PM IST.
