Known for his swashbuckling style of play during his playing days, the ‘Nawab of Najafgarh’ - Virender Sehwag is quite a popular figure on social media and an active participant on the online medium. However, Sehwag’s no-holds-barred style of batting also reflects in his quirky and witty tweets which have given him a new identity in the virtual world.

But, at times, the former attacking opener had to face the brunt for his tongue in cheek humour that puts him a spot of bother. In the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2017, Sehwag tweeted a congratulatory message for Team India on beating arch-rivals Pakistan in their first league encounter at Edgbaston.

Viru tweeted from his official account, Pote ke baad Bete. Koi baat nahi Beta, Well tried! Congratulations Bharat! #BaapBaapHotaHai #INDvPAK.”

Sehwag’s tweet didn’t go down very well on Twitter especially, with the people in the neighbouring country who blasted him for his statement. It also irked former Pakistan skipper Rashid Latif who hit out at the Indian batsman for his controversial tweet. Latif posted a video where he lashed out at Sehwag and explained why he has no respect for India’s first triple centurion in Test cricket.

However, Sehwag replied to Latif’s rant by tweeting this sarcastic message: “A meaningful silence is always better than meaningless words.”

Now in Sehwag’s defense, India batsman Manoj Tiwary has voiced his opinion about the former Pakistan wicketkeeper and lambasted Latif for his post. Tiwary, who plays for Rising Pune Supergiant in IPL, believes Latif’s video was a failed attempt to get a shot at fame in the web world.  The 31-year-old Tiwary also said that his video was a stunt meant only to get attention and limelight.

In his recorded video, Tiwary said: “I generally don’t upload videos but Rashid Latif’s comments forced me to. He has tried to put down a legend like Virender Sehwag and it is a shameful act. So, I was wondering what forced him to upload such a video.”

“After thinking for long I figured out that all he wants is his 60 seconds of fame – something which he doesn’t get nowadays. The language in the video suggests he doesn’t have courtesy and the decency to respect other players. He should realise that by posting such a video he has made a big mistake.”

Tiwary also iterated the fact that the 48-year-old Latif should go and check his own records before mocking Sehwag. He also made fun of Latif’s lack of English knowledge and suggested him to take his friend’s help for reading the stats properly.
