An application to suspend the Pakistan Cricket Board's new constitution was dismissed Wednesday by the Lahore High Court.

The new constitution, which came into existence on August 19, decreased the number of participating teams in domestic cricket from 16 to six.

Prime minister Imran Khan, who led the country to victory in the World Cup in 1992, is the patron of the PCB.

In the past, patrons of the cricket board could dissolve the PCB and replace the chairman. But in the new constitution, the patron now has no power to dissolve the board or remove the chairman.

"It was obvious to all the knowledgeable and passionate cricket fans and followers that the intentions of the petitioners were malafide and were aimed at disrupting Pakistan cricket activities and bringing embarrassment to the PCB and the country," PCB chairman Ehsan Mani said in a statement. "The petitioners had approached the court to protect their personal and financial interests with complete disregard to the fact that their action could have resulted in severe impact on the 2019-20 domestic cricket program."
